Acer revamped their Timeline series of laptops recently which resulted in three new models, the 13″ 3830T, 14″ 4830T
In particular the mid-range 4830T has been winning awards for fun and is in our opinion the best sub £500 multi purpose laptop on the market. Sure, it’s possible to buy a more powerful laptop at this price point (see Lenovo G570) but there’s nothing on the market at the time of writing this post that offers the combination of power, portability, good looks and value offered by the 4830T.
Highlights
- The 4830T is a fantastic looking laptop. When many budget laptops still look like black slabs the 4830T is a refreshing blend of turquoise, silver and black. It looks more expensive than it is and you won’t hesitate to put this one on display.
- The battery life is nothing short of astonishing for a laptop packing an i3 processor. Many have reported this power frugal machine lasting in excess of 10hrs on a single charge. That put’s it into netbook territory and combined with the sleek design makes this a truly portable device.
- The inclusion of a USB3 port is a real bonus at this price point and will certainly simplify the transfer of files from modern external devices.
- The keyboard is an absolute pleasure to use.
- It certainly ticks the connectivity box and features not only 802.11N wi-fi but also has bluetooth3.
- The Acers display lacks the detail of some more expensive models but is extremely bright and comfortable for prolonged usage. It might not be a gaming monster and lacks a dedicated graphics card but the 4830T display is more than capable of handling everyday computing tasks.
- The i3 2310M might not be the most powerful CPU you can get for under £500 but in use the TimelineX 4830T feels fast and responsive and will easily cope with the type of usage the average user is likely to throw at it.
